Onboarding Overview

What is onboarding?

Onboarding is the process of ensuring that a new employee is successfully brought onto the team. While a big part of onboarding is about making sure they have all the necessary equipment and paperwork filled out, it also includes making sure that they feel welcomed and part of the team. There may also be aspects of onboarding that apply to employees entering a new role within the organization. Additionally, onboarding is an element of organizational change that can be helpful to think of in various situations, like bringing a new project team together or launching a new project.

Benefits and Impact of Onboarding

A well-designed onboarding experience can help your new employee thrive. When they have the equipment, knowledge and training they need to start working effectively as soon as possible, it can also lead to better connection with the team and the mission.  Effective onboarding also has a positive correlation with employee engagement, increased retention and overall alignment with strategic goals, vision and values.
