Foundations of GenAI

Foundations of GenAI Series Certificate

The Foundations of GenAI Certificate is a partnership between the Office of Data and Innovation's CalAcademy and CalHR's CalLearns programs.

This series is tailored to all State Employees, including those at the Analyst level. These courses aim to introduce or refresh a learner's understanding of foundational critical thinking and decision-making skills, concepts of human centered design in serving the public, and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) for public service. The series covers approximately 42 hours of competency-based training.

Award of the certificate will be provided to learners through their CalLearns account upon providing proof of completion of the 5 courses within the series.

With Generative AI’s (GenAI) wide-ranging potential for Californians and the state’s economy, Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order to study the development, use, and risks of artificial intelligence (AI) technology throughout the state and to develop a deliberate and responsible process for evaluation and deployment of AI within state government.
