Definition
Under general supervision, to provide transportation for developmentally or mentally disabled, neurologically handicapped, deaf, or blind students to and from public school (or on field trips); and to provide a safe environment while transporting students.
Typical Tasks
Transports developmentally or mentally disabled, neurologically handicapped, deaf, or blind students to and from schools; follows all safety procedures; escorts students across streets; attends safety meetings/programs; maintains order in vehicles; follows policy regarding discipline; provides a safe environment for students during transport.
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade. and Possession of a driver license. and A California Special Certificate to drive a school bus. and Possession of a Medical Certificate on file with the Department of Motor Vehicles.
(Applicants who do not possess the required license and certificates will be admitted into the examination, but he/she must meet the license and certificate requirements before being considered eligible for appointment.)
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: Vehicle safety procedures; principles and techniques of directing group activities.
Ability to: Work with the developmentally or mentally disabled, neurologically handicapped, deaf, or blind.
Drug Testing Requirement
Applicants for positions in this class are required to pass a drug screening test. Testing of current employees who are applicants in an examination or who are transferring is permitted only if the person does not have a current appointment to a class for which drug testing is a requirement.
