Definition

Under direction, at satellite wagering facilities; greet and admit the public to the facility, sell programs and/or admissions; and to do other related work.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Satellite Wagering Facility Admissions/Program Clerks are distinguished from other clerical classes by being required to perform duties at a facility which is required, per Business and Professions Code 19596.14, to enter into a labor agreement with the labor organization which has represented the same class at the nearest horse racing meeting.

Typical Tasks

Handles negotiable instruments under conditions necessitating rapid transactions; performs financial record keeping associated with the daily transactions; performs any combination of general satellite wagering facility admission duties such as collecting passes, administering and checking hand stamps; provides information and directions to patrons; may be assigned lead responsibility over less experienced employees for purposes of training and answering questions on work procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Either I

 

In the California state service, one year of experience performing clerical duties at a level of responsibility equivalent to that of an Office Assistant, Range A.

Or II

 

Experience: One year of experience in public event facilities or related areas involving admissions and program selling at an entertainment facility such as a fair; or live track, or experience in a bank or other business involving handling cash, reconciling cash receipts, and record keeping of same. This may include acting as a teller in a bank or as a cashier responsible for rapidly and accurately making change. [Academic education above the twelfth grade may be substituted for one year of the required general experience on the basis on either: (a) one year of general education being equivalent to three months of experience; or (b) one year of education of a business or commercial nature being equivalent to six months of experience. Students who are enrolled in the last semester or its equivalent of course work which upon completion will fulfill these requirements will be admitted to the examination, but they must submit evidence of completion before they can be considered for appointment.] and

 

Education: Either equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; or completion of a business school curriculum; or completion of a clerical work experience training program such as those offered through the Welfare Reform Act. (One year of clerical work experience may be substituted for the required education.)

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: Receiving, disbursing and receipting for negotiable instruments; methods for maintaining records of money received.

 

Ability to: Perform clerical work; use good English; make accurate arithmetical computations; perform financial record-keeping work; follow directions; evaluate situations accurately and take effective action; communicate effectively at a level required for successful job performance, establish and maintain cooperative relationships with the public.​
