Definition
Under supervision, to perform varied semiskilled tasks in connection with the restoration of historic buildings and sites; and to do other related work.
Typical Tasks
Assists skilled craftsperson in restoration and other work; assists in erecting scaffolding; sharpens, cleans, and cares for tools and equipment; saws lumber and mixes mortar; carries materials, tools, and equipment to and from the job site, and cleans up after a job has been completed; assists with shoring and bracing, the making of adobe and brick, and with concrete work; does simple research on particular phases of restoration, as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Either
1. One year of experience as a building trades laborer; or
2. Six months of experience as a building trades laborer on restoration projects.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: Care and maintenance of tools, machinery and equipment; tools, materials, methods, and terminology used in the building trades and in restoration work.
Ability to: Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; do manual labor; follow oral directions.
Special Personal Characteristics
Willingness to do manual labor; interest in and aptitude for restoration work.
