Definition
Under general direction, to plan, organize, and direct the Prison Industry Authority's advertising program, including the preparation of Prison Industries' product catalogs and promotional materials; develop promotional materials and written copy; act as color consultant to Prison Industries; and to do other related work.
Typical Tasks
Plans, organizes, and directs the coordination and preparation of product catalogs and promotional materials; originates and creates concepts for catalog design; develops promotional material appropriate for the advertisement of products; develops layout design; supervises the development of catalogs and promotional material from creation to completion; develops advertising and other promotional copy; provides technical supervision for photographic work by institution or contract photographers in the development of material; provides technical supervision of inmate or contract artists creating line drawings and other nonphotographic illustrations; develops and coordinates display concepts and creation of display material; acts as design and color consultant on Prison Industries' product development; conceives and creates color rendering for sales promotion in conjunction with prestige installation; performs effective liaison with other State agencies and private enterprises relating to the preparation and completion of catalogs and promotional material; assists in the development and maintenance of a catalog numbering system for use in conjunction with electronic data processing systems; prepares reports; assists in the development and coordination of promotional materials as required by other Prison Industry Authority functions (annual report, newsletters, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Five years of experience in a position responsible for the preparation of promotional material, which must have included substantial experience in art design and layout, and copywriting. and Education: Equivalent to graduation from college, preferably with a major in Journalism-Advertising or Commercial Art. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: Materials, methods, and procedures used in the development of catalogs and promotional material; the field of commercial art and its application to the field of advertisement; display techniques, product design elements, advertising copy, and color application.
Ability to: Create artistic concepts, and apply artistic knowledge to the advertisement of products through publications; create and appraise product designs and correct color applications; coordinate the activities of a number of agencies involved in the preparation of publications; write creatively; think clearly, analyze situations and take effective action.
