Definition
Under supervision, in the executive residence, to perform professional housekeeping tasks involved in the care, cleaning, preservation and maintenance of living quarters and valuable objects of personal, historic and artistic value; and to do other related work.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Employees in this class normally work under the supervision of the Supervising Executive Residence Housekeeper performing journey level housekeeping and residential maintenance work in the executive residence defined as the Governor's residence in the Capital City as assigned.
Typical Tasks
Sweeps, scrubs, mops, spots and waxes floors; vacuums rugs and carpets; cleans, dusts, and polishes cabinets, furniture and woodwork; empties and cleans waste receptacles; spots walls; cleans stairways, hallways, restrooms and offices; cleans ceilings, walls, window shades, light fixtures and venetian blinds; exchanges linens, makes beds, moves and arranges furniture and equipment; polishes nickel and brass work on door panels, hand railings, door knobs and plates; locks doors and windows; washes dishes, cleans stove, oven and kitchen appliances; cleans crystal, fine china, mirrors, artwork and silver items; provides laundry services including washing and ironing clothes and other items as needed; replaces light globes and tubes; operates scrubbers, buffers, waxers, and other equipment and machinery; and stores and inventories supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
Either I
Six months of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Maintenance and Service Occupational Trainee performing housekeeping or janitorial duties.
Or II
Six months of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Service Assistant (Janitor). (Promotional candidates who have completed four months of the required experience will be admitted to the examination, but they must fully meet the experience requirement before being eligible for appointment.)
Or III
One year of experience performing professional housekeeping duties in an executive residential setting.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: Special methods, materials, chemicals, disinfectants, and equipment used in housekeeping and residential maintenance work; various laundering methods; and safety practices in housekeeping and residential maintenance work.
Ability to: Use and care for residential maintenance equipment and supplies; exercise care in the handling of valuable and intricate objects; launder and iron clothes; follow directions; and communicate at a level appropriate to the classification.
Special Personal Characteristics
Ability to work with the occupants of the executive residence, possess professionalism and tact, and maintain confidentiality.
Satisfactory record as a law-abiding citizen.
