Definition
Under direction, to supervise the Production Control Unit of the Office of State Printing; to establish production plans which meet the client's requirements; to maximize efficient use of the Office of State Planning equipment and labor; and to do other related work.
Typical Tasks
Plans, organizes and directs the work efforts of the staff responsible for scheduling and controlling the production of printing jobs; directs the use of current data processing tools to monitor and revise production plans; establishes the long-range production plans for the plant; confers with plant personnel responsible for planning and/or producing the printing jobs to meet established production schedules; directs staff support responsible for answering inquiries; monitors availability of job materials and takes corrective action as required; maintains schedule information and prepares reports.
Minimum Qualifications
Either I
One year of experience in the Office of State Printing performing the duties of a Printing Process and Operations Planner, Range B, Printing Materials Supervisor, or Associate Printing Plant Superintendent.
Or II
Experience: Two years of supervisory experience in industrial production control in a printing plant with a planning section employing five or more technical persons; and
Education: Equivalent to graduation from college, preferably with specialization in printing technology. (Technical experience in industrial production control may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: Methods and principles of production scheduling and control in a printing plant, current data processing techniques and tools available at the Office of State Printing to schedule and control work flow; all printing equipment and techniques used by the Office of State Printing to produce printing jobs, especially with regard to production rates and capabilities; principles of supervision; standard hour estimating methods; basic data processing; Department's Affirmative Action Program objectives; a manager's role in the Affirmative Action Program and the processes available to meet affirmative action objectives.
Ability to: Organize and direct the work efforts of those responsible for production scheduling, and responding to job status agency inquiries; establish production plans which meet customer requirements and maximize efficient use of the Office of State Printing equipment and labor; use current data processing techniques and tools to schedule and control production; establish and maintain constructive working relationships with the Office of State Printing production and planning personnel, and agency and legislative printing representatives; effectively contribute to the Department's affirmative action objectives.
