Definition
Under direction, to do work of average difficulty in making preliminary and final estimates of electrical construction costs and in preparing quantity surveys; and to do other related work.
Typical Tasks
Prepares, from plans and specifications, complete quantity surveys of materials and labor required for electrical systems on contract or direct construction projects; prices materials and labor, and sets up estimates of costs of all types and classes of electrical work, including building illumination, outdoor and indoor floodlighting, power installation, x-ray equipment, communications systems, and complicated electric control systems; sets up cost analyses of completed jobs; requisitions materials as required and checks bids for quality of materials and price.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of electrical systems design or construction experience,at least two years of which shall have bean as an electrical contractor, electrician supervisor, or in estimating electrical construction costs. (Graduation from college with major work in electrical engineering may be substituted for the required two years of nonspecialized experience.)
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: Costs of labor and various materials entering into all types and classes of electrical work, including building illumination, outdoor and indoor floodlighting, power installation, x-ray equipment, communication systems, and complicated electric control systems construction; fundamentals of electrical systems; the building and construction field.
Ability to: Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; read and interpret plans and specifications, and make estimates of material and labor costs, and other items entering into the cost of electrical construction; detect errors and discrepancies in plans and specifications.
Additional Desirable Qualification
Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
