Definition
Under supervision as a trainee and first journey level, performs a variety of routine control system tasks including inspecting, testing, operating and maintaining all types of control system equipment utilized in the State Water Project; does shop or field work in overhauling, adjusting and maintaining control devices; and does other related work.
Typical Tasks
Performs technical work on control systems and other electronic equipment used on the State Water Project including installing, testing, inspecting, calibrating, analyzing, isolating malfunctions, and repairing down to the component level. Participates in classroom or home study courses.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Completion of an approved technical curriculum in electrical technology at the community college level or equivalent. [Work experience in the field of electrical control systems may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one year of experience equivalent to one semester (15 units) of college.]
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: Safety precautions for working on electrical devices; mathematics through trigonometry; electrical and electronic theory and practice; materials and equipment needed, and general procedures for testing, maintenance and repair of electronic and electro- mechanical devices.
Ability to: Establish and maintain effective relations with those contacted in the work; prepare reports and maintain records, read and interpret electronic and electromechanical diagrams and schematics; interpret test procedures; and assist in set up and operation of test equipment.
