Definition
Under close supervision in a State institution, to perform simple routine work in the laundry or clothing center; as required, to instruct and work with helpers from the patient/resident population; may instruct, lead, or supervise inmates, wards, or patient/resident workers; and to do other related work.
Typical Tasks
Checks, sorts, marks, folds, and distributes wearing apparel and flatwork before and after laundering; shakes out flatwork; feeds clothes into flatwork ironers, cleans equipment and work areas; may do unskilled work on presses; may instruct and work with helpers from the patient/resident population.
Minimum Qualifications
Six months of experience in routine work in a laundry. (Education equivalent to completion of the ninth grade may be substituted for the required experience.)
Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to: Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; learn the methods and techniques of laundry work; follow directions.
Special Personal Characteristic
Understanding of and willingness to work with the patient/resident population of a State institution; personal cleanliness; freedom from communicable diseases; and ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
