Definition
Under close supervision, to learn and perform various machine operations in one or more areas of a broad range of reproduction and duplication service; and to do other related work.
Job Characteristics
This class is designed to give persons who have received training on various duplicating machines an opportunity to acquire on-the-job experience. Service Assistant (Duplicating) is intended to serve as a transition class between a duplicating trainee program and advancement to higher level classes. While it is anticipated that most employees in this class will promote to higher levels, a limited number of positions may be permanently allocated to the Service Assistant (Duplicating) class. Such positions may be filled with persons who can perform satisfactorily at the Service Assistant level but whose mental disability or similar intellectual impairment restrict their ability to compete and/or perform satisfactorily at higher levels in classes with a broader, more demanding range of duties.
Typical Tasks
Receive on-the-job training and develop skills in basic reproduction and duplication tasks such as preparing various machines, operating and cleaning up, sorting, checking, machining, assembling materials and plate making; learns hand marrying, padding and spiral binding of complete materials; learns to apply safety rules and regulations and the proper use and care of work aids; keeps work areas clean and orderly, may learn to operate such reproduction equipment as 50 station collator, wire stitcher and the processing equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Successful completion of a formal training or work experience program in duplicating and machine operation services. This work experience training program must have been in either:
1. A setting recognized or sponsored by the California Department of Rehabilitation; or
2. A program such as those under the Career Opportunities Development (COD), Work Incentive Program (WIN), or similar Federal, State or local programs.
Knowledge and Abilities
Willingness and ability to learn and perform the more limited, routine and repetitive tasks associated with reproduction and duplicating machine operations; follow oral, written and/or gestural instructions; apply safety rules and regulations; work with others in a duplicating shop work setting; meet production standards.
