Writing Personnel Actions

Overview

This full day course is designed to provide participants with a working knowledge of the statutes and regulations which govern the discipline of state employees. The course will focus on the requirements of a legally sufficient Notice of Adverse Action, Rejection on Probation, Non-punitive termination and the basis for Medical Actions. Participants will learn how to write factually sufficient personnel actions and assess a just and proper penalty. The course will also explore hearing and settlement options

Objective

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Write a Notice of Adverse Action, Rejection on Probation and Non-punitive termination
  • Know what is required to initiate a Medical Action
  • Distinguish relevant facts to a personnel action
  • Understand how to determine the appropriate penalty
  • Discern how Skelly factors are applied
  • Be comfortable when confronted with a disciplinary issue

Intended Audience

This class is designed for any individual who initiates, opposes or defends disciplinary actions before the State Personnel Board.
